The Formiche of Grosseto are three very small islands, Formichino, Formica Media and Formica Grande, making up a part of the Achipelago Toscano which is situated in front of the Parco Naturale della Maremma. On the biggest island stands the lighthouse “il faro di Grosseto”. The fist island is composed of two rocks, the second is a straight tongue of earth whilst the thirds is a round form.
They are slightly more than 15 nautical miles from Port Santo Stefano and 9 nautical miles from the mouth of the river Ombrone and are cherished by deep sea divers for their waters.
These islands are also a part of the area that is mature protected.
